Be unapologetically you
I’ve heard people say that life should be lived unapologetically. People should be unapologetically themselves. “Be unapologetically you.”
Thinking about that piece of advice (or lifestyle choice), I can’t help but wonder if that is true?
As I think it through, I feel the need to dispel the misconceptions:
Thinking about that piece of advice (or lifestyle choice), I can’t help but wonder if that is true?
As I think it through, I feel the need to dispel the misconceptions:
- It does not mean that a person can do whatever they want to another person without the need for an apology.
- It does not mean that a person should live a life without concern for the well-being of the world around them (and the people within that world).
- It does not mean that a person should be content to live a life in a manner that is less than what they are capable.
I have seen, all too often, people choose to follow a trend or try to fit into the crowd rather than living their life.
I have seen women choose to be subservient because the “social norms” of their region of the country pressured them.
I have seen diverse groups of people made to feel far inferior because a person (or group of people) held a position of power that didn’t embrace diversity.
Throughout history, major accomplishments have happened because people stood up against the status quo and chose to apologetically live their life. Equality and equity issues have moved forward because people were brave enough to let their voice be heard (to show people who they were unapologetically).
Maybe it’s time for that. Maybe right now is the perfect time to unapologetically be you.
It truly is the best thing for you, but it might be exactly what our children and grandchildren (and the people who are in the world around us) need.
Be you. Be unapologetically you.
